In addition to Assistant Teachers and Collegiate Assistant Professors, UPESSC conducts recruitments for Post Graduate Teachers (PGT / Senior Secondary Lecturers) and secondary administrative leadership posts:
One of the most consequential reforms under the newly constituted UPESSC is the formal inclusion of negative marking (-1 Mark) and the integration of General Studies (GS). Blind guesswork, which was prevalent in older UPSESSB cycles, will now severely penalize aspirants.
Both Assistant Teacher (TGT) and Assistant Professor written examinations now feature 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) designed to thoroughly test depth and accuracy.
Each question carries +3 marks (+360 marks total for written exam). For Assistant Professor, PGT, HM, and Principal, a 40-mark interview makes the final total 400 merit marks. Assistant Teacher (TGT) has no interview (360 marks merit).
Unlike older state exams with zero penalty, UPESSC has implemented strict negative marking: -1 mark is deducted for every incorrect response.
Candidates receive 120 minutes (2 hours) to attempt all 120 questions. Time management and eliminating blind guesses are paramount.
General Studies and General Knowledge have been integrated into teaching exams, testing candidates on national developments, ICT, constitution, and environmental science.
In accordance with Government of Uttar Pradesh policy, Group 'B' non-gazetted teaching posts (TGT Level 7) do not have an interview. Selection is 100% written exam merit.
All candidates seeking to apply for Assistant Teacher (TGT), PGT, Assistant Professor, or Principal posts must complete their One Time Registration (OTR) on the official commission portal before accessing recruitment application forms.
Visit upessc.up.gov.in and click on 'One Time Registration (OTR)'. Verify primary mobile number and email ID via OTP verification.
Input demographic data, Aadhaar details, category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS), Uttar Pradesh domicile status, and upload recent passport photo and signature.
Enter roll numbers, boards/universities, passing years, marks obtained, and subject combinations for 10th, 12th, Graduation, B.Ed., TET, and Master's/Ph.D.
Upon final submission, a unique 14-digit UPESSC OTR Number is generated. This number is mandatory to log in and submit application forms for Advt 06, 07, 08, 09, or Advt 04/2026.

Answers to key questions regarding UPESSC Assistant Teacher (Level 7), Assistant Professor (Level 10), exam patterns, OTR, and eligibility:
The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) is the autonomous statutory recruitment commission established by the UP Government in Prayagraj. It replaced the previous UPSESSB (Secondary Board) and UPHESC (Higher Education Commission) to conduct all recruitments for Assistant Teachers (TGT), PGT Lecturers, Assistant Professors in degree colleges, High School Headmasters, and Inter College Principals.
The primary posts under UPESSC falling under Pay Level 7 and above are: 1. Assistant Teacher / TGT (Pay Level-7, ₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400, Grade Pay ₹4,600), 2. PGT Lecturer (Pay Level-8, ₹47,600 – ₹1,51,100, Grade Pay ₹4,800), 3. Assistant Professor (UGC Academic Level-10, ₹57,700 – ₹1,82,400), 4. High School Headmaster (Pay Level-10, ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500), and 5. Inter College Principal (Pay Level-12, ₹78,800 – ₹2,09,200, Grade Pay ₹7,600).
UPESSC Assistant Teachers (TGT) are appointed in 7th CPC Pay Level-7 (corresponding to pre-revised Pay Band ₹9,300–₹34,800 with Grade Pay ₹4,600). The basic pay begins at ₹44,900 per month, rising to ₹1,42,400. In addition, teachers receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Medical Allowances as per UP State Government rules, with starting in-hand monthly salaries typically exceeding ₹62,000–₹68,000 depending on city classification.
UPESSC Assistant Professors in government-aided degree colleges are placed in UGC Academic Pay Level-10 with a starting basic pay of ₹57,700 (Pay Scale ₹57,700 – ₹1,82,400). Minimum eligibility under Advt. No. 04/2026 requires a Master's degree with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC non-creamy layer/Divyang) in the relevant subject along with qualifying the UGC-NET / CSIR-NET or UP-SLET, or possessing a Ph.D. in accordance with UGC Regulations.
Yes. Under the updated UPESSC examination regulations, negative marking has been introduced. For every correct answer, candidates receive +3 marks, while 1 mark (-1 Mark, or 1/3rd penalty) is deducted for each incorrect answer or multiple responses marked for a single question.
Yes. Under Advt. No. 07/2026, candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree with minimum 50% marks (or a Master's Degree with minimum 45% marks) in the relevant subject from a recognized university along with a B.Ed. degree (or NCTE-recognized equivalent). Candidates must also have qualified the Upper Primary Level TET (Classes 6 to 8) conducted by either the UP Government (UPTET) or the Central Board (CTET Paper 2).
No. In accordance with UP State Government recruitment reforms for Group 'B' non-gazetted teaching cadres, there is NO interview for Assistant Teacher (TGT) posts. The final merit list is prepared 100% on the basis of marks obtained in the written objective examination (360 marks) followed by Document Verification.
Under standardized UPESSC 2026 rules, Assistant Professor (Advt. 04/2026), High School Headmaster (Advt. 09/2026), and Inter College Principal (Advt. 08/2026) each have a 40-mark interview. The final merit list is calculated out of 400 total marks (360 marks from the written exam + 40 marks from the interview).
OTR (One Time Registration) is a single-window digital registration mandate implemented by UPESSC on upessc.up.gov.in. Aspirants must register their personal, domicile, academic, and category details once. It issues a permanent 14-digit OTR number that prevents repeated document uploads and simplifies applying for all current and future UPESSC recruitments.
The General Knowledge / GS section tests Indian History, National Freedom Movement, Geography, Indian Constitution & Polity, Economy, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), Teaching Aptitude, and Current Affairs. The Victory Key provides structured notes, daily capsules, and CBT mock tests with negative marking specifically calibrated to the UPESSC examination syllabus.
